What bicycle works best for a tran-continental trip?

I like the aerodynamics and rider position of a triathlon bicycle. I'm 6' and am more of a runner than a cyclist. So the tri seems best suited for me. I like the aero bars and plan to use those no matter what bike I get. However, I realize a Trek
Tri bike would be about the worse choice for a cross country trip. No way to mount racks and panniers. Tires and rims are optimized for speed, not carrying weight. Gearing is too tall. Average cross country takes about 7 weeks, give or take. Imagine

The airframe flexes through the door openings when in flight and stresses the door hinges, which crack and break. Carb ice shows up as an RPM drop (fixed pitch) or MP drop (Constant-speed). The turbo stresses the exhaust system a whole lot and the throttle-linked wastegate system can be troublesome. The main gear actuators are also prone to cracking and new castings cost over $8000 apiece. The airplane has powerful brakes. If it won't idle it's probably collecting ice. Cessna really got the handling characteristics right with that airplane. But the airplane flies wonderfully. We haven't had one crack yet. The difference in operating costs is big. Expensive, those hinges. It has a wide speed range....
