If you live in a cold climate that sees snow and/or ice and insist on using just one set of tires then you need to look into a high-performance all-season tire. A Bridgestone Potenza RE050 would be a good choice here or if you want to get 95% of the performance but with longer tread wear the Potenza RE760 Sport is an excellent tire, and a bit less expensive. The Bridgestone Turanza EL400 and Michelin MXM4 being about it and I’m not a huge fan of either tire. If your needs emphasize a smooth ride then you need a touring tire. If you drive where the weather is mostly warm and you like to toss the car around the cloverleafs at a good clip than an ultra-high-performance summer tire is in order. Avoid the Yokohama AVID W4s which, while a slightly better riding tire is horrendous in any kind of snow. Not bad tires mind you, but not great. The Michelin especially is shockingly expensive for what it delivers. Either are much better than the Yokohama S. drive whose popularity astounds me.......
